Space horsey!🥳 I challenged myself to finally finish it, you guys will have to tell me if it was worth it? This piece has been put aside more than any other I've done. I didn't feel like I was doing the incredible reference photo I was using from @gibsonpics any justice. I couldn't get the shape right, the colours weren't bright enough, the blend wasn't good enough and the space dust just looked a mess. I find real objects more challenging because there's an expectation for it to look like the image you're using, however I've accepted I'm allowed to put my own interpretation on it. ISS, Jupiter and another satellite.😍 One of, if not the, best astro capture I've managed ever! I'm so happy with this image!🥲 I know it isn't the best one anyone's ever taken, but it's mine and I love it! Watercolour Mercury! My first ever planet painting. 🥰 Mercury is the closest planet to our sun and its orbit is only 88 days! It's also the smallest planet in our neighbourhood (solar system).🤯 I don't tend to use watercolour that much anymore, but this was another sneaky piece I did at work. 😂 I had very low expectations for this and didn't think it would turn out well, but I'm actually really pleased with it! Lightning in space! This was actually a pupil's suggested colour scheme. I'm not sure how I feel about it but it's always interesting and fun to try something different!😊 This one took two layers and proved more of a challenge as the orange just kept wanting to go 'muddy'; blending directly into the colours underneath- the blue especially. Trying to show the full process of a free flowing nebula in 60 seconds is pretty difficult. 😂 I just let the cosmos guide me on these, I don't plan shapes really. The Moon and Venus. This was inspired by the amazing photo that @cosmic_background took last year, swipe to see it! 😍 Originally I wanted to do this one in oils but these canvases’ don’t like oil paint, which I didn’t realise until I'd done my acrylic underpainting. You guys wanted the development, here it is! Since I drew the astronaut I just kept seeing images of floating through space seeing all these beautiful things before them! 😍 A bit rudimentary as it's another piece I did at work, we don't have oil paint there haha. Acrylic for the galaxy and stars, they have silver acrylic though! Our Lunar.🥰 I've never actually painted a black and white moon, and I've never painted a moon in oils. So quite a few firsts on this one!! Experimentation is all part of learning and progressing! I wanted to practice with different textures to see how they would dry, and see if mixing the materials into the paint or placing them on top would be my best option. Ultimately I decided neither of these options would suit me as I didn't want to mix into the paint and not use all of it, and placing it on top didn't secure it quite enough.
